I don't like gin either but you can't taste it in the final product.Traceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05534626082405777284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295421286576646745.post-81833721875662087522011-06-04T08:56:15.825+01:002011-06-04T08:56:15.825+01:00I can't say I'm very excited about this......I can't say I'm very excited about this...I really don't like gin so the thought of ever making it has put me off.....do you think I could substitute the gin for vodka??allotments4youhttp://www.allotments4you.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295421286576646745.post-44572151672378250192011-05-28T06:45:28.671+01:002011-05-28T06:45:28.671+01:00I've tasted both our frosted and non frosted g...I've tasted both our frosted and non frosted gin (it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it!) and there is a marked difference, however, we pick sloes in several different location so this could account for it. Still no firm conclusions!Traceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05534626082405777284noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295421286576646745.post-54052012364629179722011-05-27T21:03:58.864+01:002011-05-27T21:03:58.864+01:00I haven't opened last year's sloe gin yet ...I haven't opened last year's sloe gin yet (I've got a backlog) but it does look a very good colour and consistency. But I'm not totally convinced about the first frost theory. My personal theory is that the weather in the spring and summer have a much bigger impact. Some years ago a dry spring and a cool summer produced a thinner, sharper gin from both frosted and unfrosted sloes. Interesting to see what this year will produce after a hot, dry spring. I'd also be interested to know what an Essex bullace is like - I've never heard of it.Phil in the Kitchenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15904292856978631382noreply@blogger.com
